I am repairing an LGB and have a Mogul Idler Gear that needs replacing.

Does anyone know where I can get one made of brass or metal?

Northwest Short Line might have replacement gears. Just found something from NWSL
http://www.nwsl.com/gears/upgrade-replacement-gears Scroll to the bottom of the page and it lists LGB Mogul gears. I've used NWSL gears to replace the USA trains gears that broke and never have had a problem.

Is there a reason you want metal, and not just replace them with the stock gears? They are readily available now...contact Axel at Train-li or you can get them right from Marklin/LGB.

I’m no expert on gears, but I think the rule of thumb is ‘Driving gear should be harder material than driven gear’ I think having an metal idler may cause you more troubles, possibly excessive wear on the worm… Maybe someone else can shed some light on this, I'm keen to know.


Also out of interest have both idler gears warn at the same rate?

The Nylon gear is supposed to be sacrificial.
To prevent other parts and motors to be damaged.
Like a shear pin on a small outboard.
