Houston is a great place for "Steamin" when the weather is warm, cool, coldand hot, But not when the wind is blowing 30 to 40 and the temp is not real warm. We tried to steam at Zube Park here today and the steamers would not get up to performance levels adequate for good steamin.  John Frank had his Heisler, Art had his "Mike" and Caleb Robert's his Aster Daylite. Caleb did get his Daylite to make a couple
of loops but the wind blew his cars off the track. I failed to get the train wreck.
A little video to show what we tried to do. You can hear the wind.youtube.com/watch

Seems as if most of the nation was under a wind alert. The same was true for the CNJ live steamers and the attempt to run yesterday with the weather conditions being 40 degrees (wind chill about 20) and wind gusting up to 25-30 mph. The runs did include K27, Mogul, C16, Berkshire pulling car either upright or dragging them sideways.

Sorry I could not make it to ZUBE.  I was down in Galveston driving a horse drawn carriage in the cold and wind.

The conditions at ZUBE has been about the same at this event for the last several years.  I have scrapes on cars where they blew off the tracks and recall that even the coal fired engines had a hard time keeping up steam.

One year the only one really operating was Bill Courtright -- he did a great job flying his kites!

"Bob, good to see you back posting.  I assume you figured out what was wrong!  Weclome back."

Fred,
Didn't you know they have discovered that below absolute zero electrons stop flowing!
And Bob didn't even realize he was affected by the laws of Physics.  Electrons are now flowing much faster here in the south due to the installation of a cryogenic unit by BellSouth on my new ultraDSL connection.  It is with much joy I am now able to watch all those movies you guys have been making.  I even saw my Shay running at Huckleberry last summer in Michigan(?).

Bruce,
I didn't know you were sleeping last year at the Huck.  I would have woke you up so you could watch it live like the rest of us did./DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/laugh.gif /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/whistling.gif   Welcome to the wonderful world of high speed internet.  You've got a lot of catching up to do.
