All of my switches have to be manually set. They are seven feet above the ground where I can't see them unless I am right there, so I have to remember to set every single one of them the correct way every time.  And the nature of my layout is such that the train will pass through several switches no matter which way it travels along any of several possible routings. Thus I have learned to develop a check list mentality when it comes to those switches. That doesn't mean I'll get it right every time, though.
