Bill Veeck has said that, "the true harbinger of spring is not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of the bat on the ball."  For me, this was also true until two things happened - the 1994 baseball strike, and my discovery of large scale garden railroading.  Now, my harbinger is when I can finally run my trains without a jacket.  So, I'm curious as winter comes to a close in the next month or so, what is your harbinger of spring?

You said "winter comes to a close in the next month or so". Man, you just need to come visit in a month or so to see that it will be another month or 6 weeks before the trains will really be running. Bring your winter coat if you decide to visit in March ...

Ed,

I picked March Madness.  Love me some college b-ball!!

The SI Swimsuit issue has had sub par 'articles' the last few years, but I never associate that with Spring anyway!

This is what marks the beginning of Spring for me every year:

REAL spring however is still a solid 6 weeks away.. /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/sad.gif
Only the witchhazel has bloomed so far..
no snowdrops yet, no crocus..nothing but snow on the ground.
