Well Santa was good to me this year and brought me a new USA Trains Dockside Swicher Locomotive (Christmas colors). It comes with two track magnets that trigger the bell/whistle. Does anyone know if USA Trains sells these as a spare part? If so, can you get them from St Aubin or another online store?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed,
If they are anything like the LGB ones, you can go to Radio Shack and get some. The ones I use are a little smaller then a dime. If you are not in a hurry I have some laying around some where.

Kidmans carry those LGB ones. they lock into the ties. Don's you could hot glue them.

Ed, Nice Christmas present. Nice to see you renewed your membership. I enjoy your pictures of your layout that you used to post. Keep them coming.
Happy New Year also.

Ed, from my experience, the LGB track magnets will not trip the reed switches in the Dockside Switcher... too low. When I installed the USAT magnets after trimming the sides to fit between the LGB ties, the motor blocks on my S4 and NW2 struck the top of the magnets.

Instead of placing magnets hoigher (above the rail head) , use a stronger magnet at tie leve.

I have used some from discarded computer hard drives and these have approx. 1/2 inch length from a reed to trip the reed switch.
