Unexpected cash is coming our way.  Its not enough to pay off the house or the mortgage, etc..

I was thinking I should split it evenly with MB, and remove it from the checking account so it doesn't get used up for regular stuff.  Problem is this:  We are in the midst of a change with Luke.  MB is planning to go back part time, but that'll mean a pretty big hit to our income this year.  I have a friend getting married in Sonoma later this year, two family trips in the summer, and my sister's wedding in DC in December.

I'd say put some money in savings for unexpected things, like these trips you mention. Then each take an equally decided amount and get something for youraselves. Oh yeah, and Luke gets some too. I damn sure hope if some is gonna go to trains, you should remember your HO roots while embracing your passion for live steam. Yeah, you hear what I'm saying. Build a complete rake of LNER carriages  ;):D/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/tongue.gif

P.S. ~ This is kinda hard to really grasp without knowing the range.  I mean, is there any possibility of getting an S2 out of the deal?  /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/laugh.gif

ok,

I'd put $500 away, each of you take $200, luke gets $100. Oh yeah, and don't forget my 2 cents. Actually that leaves you and MB $199.99 each :D

Ah, you got the same e-mail.
I, too, am waiting for 1.5milloin dollar US (sic) to be deposited into my account.
Funny, I got one like that first of the year, and nothing showed up.
Must have been an oversight.
But, I got one in December, and November, and October........hmmmm.

In order to get that 1.5 mill you have to send a bank check for about $30k for processing fees. Then they will contact you and inform you of the meeting location, and then they'll give you the briefcase with the 1.5 mil. Of course they'll first wait for your check to clear, and then it's your turn to wait... and wait... and wait...   Please, don't ask me how I know this

I read an article on this a few years ago, and it had surfaced in the town I used to live in over in Scotland. Someone local had fallen for it, and was to meet at this "Bank" in Thurso. They were given the address. Turns out the "bank" was in fact a small chip shop. Ohhhhh, bummer

TOC.

I forwarded this message about good luck if I forwarded it to everyone in my address book.  Or wait, was it the one where Microsoft was going to pay me if I did a survey?  Either way. I  got notice that the check is on its way!! Too bad it is in US Dollars.  Would prefer it be in gold bullion! Harder to split up evenly, though.

Dont worry Mark Im an AVID, Die hard, very well seasoned Gold Prospector and the way gold keeps getting higher and higher gold bullion will be alot easier to split than you think I am just very Glad right now that I took and invested ALOT of funds into Gold back when it was at $190.00 an ounce not to mention the stuff I withdrew / found while prospecting

All,

Thanks for your input!  I decided to take half and save for upcoming trips.  The other half will be split 50-50 and each can do with their half as they please.  This worked out well!!

I would give all the money to the wife as in the long run she is the one that makes or breaks how your world will be. I don't even know how much money I make..... the wife does all that crap and guess what I must be doing OK as she bought me 2 - GP40's, 2-E8's and numerous cars to go with them. Oh forgot about the 2 handguns, ammo and a membership in the rod & gun club. If I handled the money I would be broke and on the street.....she does it and we have no bills, go on trips, buy toys, and have fun.

Well, over here in UK I'd say invest in a full tank of gas.

Or a couple of Double Whoppers.

In USA, well, I'd say that missing your sister's wedding could cause all kinds of recriminations down the line - after all, how many times will she get married?

It will be her special day, made even better if her bro is there.

My $0.02.

Mike,

I don't think she reads these forums.  But she knows what I am gunning for!!  In fairness, she's been sharing her bonuses with me for years! She's in sales, and when she wins stuff, I usually benefit!

Tac - my sister's wedding is non-negotiable!! Never a question we were going to go to that!  The wedding that looks like it is very questionable is a friends in california.  My sister's getting married in DC, about 2 hours drive.

Art - It would never cross her mind to throw me a bone or a boxcar.  One of the few times it happened, it was because the boxcar said "Pittsburgh Steelers".  Its not that she thinks the trains are a waste of time, but that there are more important things to be spending our $$ on.  Sometimes I agree.

Thanks again to all of your input!

Mark (& everyone),
I once had a co-worker whose theory is to ask the wife if it was OK to buy a fishing pole or a fishing boat. Ask for two things and usually you will always get one of them. Sometimes both! This never worked for me with the first wife but once I got the "starter marriage" done with and re-marreid I've never been happier and hopefuly she says the same about me. she keeps buying me "treats" so I must be doing something right? Her last bonus was spent on "us" so I can't complain.

Chas,

I like that idea!!!! Sometimes it works that way for me.  Sometimes I think it is too much information, and she'd rather I just went ahead and did it, rather than deliberate about it.  In this case, everyone involved is satisfied.  She's talking about using her share of the loot to take a trip with her sister and her aunt to see family in Ohio.  That means I will also get a small 'home' vacation for me!

my coworker actually got both eth fishing pole and the fishing boat that year. The following year they got a bigger boat. The year after that they again traded up in boat size. then they had a second child and moved to a larger house with an inground pool and the boat sat. Go figure! LOL!

We invested in a larger more "period" looking canvas tent for the medieval event that we camp for two weeks at. So from camping in a 10 x 20 "porta-garage" to a 12 X 16 Trader style tent with an 8 x 12 awning that can also be walled off for a separate second "room". We are defintely tent camping in style now.

MY profit share check is already spoken for though. It'll be going towards the Shed for the trains and the deck for the pool.
