I am drawing a blank. I don't have any man made grades in my existing line but am installing a secondary ''mountain "line. I am drawing a blank on how to calculate grade. For each 12 inches of distance you add ------ inches of elevation to get a 1,2,or3% grade. Help,Help!!!!!
A 1 inch rise over 25 inches is 4 percent.
A 3/4 inch rise over 25 inches is 3 percent.
A 1/2 inch rise over 25 inches is 2 percent.
A 1/4 inch rise over 25 inches is 1 percent.
A 1 inch rise over 25 inches is 4 percent.
A 3/4 inch rise over 25 inches is 3 percent.
A 1/2 inch rise over 25 inches is 2 percent.
A 1/4 inch rise over 25 inches is 1 percent.
Many folks "round down" to 24", and use a 24" level and a step block set to 1/4" increments to measure grade. It measures just a bit steeper--about 1/10%, but the difference will never be noticeable.
