Until last year we have enjoyed about a decade of short and mild winters. Hurray for global warming!

But last year was like an old fashion Ottawa winter. It began snowing on November 21st and didn’t stop until March. It was followed by a very rainy and cold, spring and summer. The nicest week of the whole year followed the Labour Day Holiday, and the rest of September was pleasant. We smiled and hoped the past year was just a fluke.

But along came October and early frosts gave warning that the witch of November may come early. Last night we were hit with an early snow storm. Three weeks too early, even for an old fashion Ottawa winter.

It wasn't the 15 centimetres (6 inches) forecasted, but a bummer just the same. Fortunately I reluctantly installed snow tires last week when my truck was in for its semi-annual oil change.
