Running my steam engine for the first time

So I will be running a Spectrum Consolidation & Side Tank Porter for thefirst time. Can I run the engines straight from the box or do I have to lube them before hand?
What is the usual maintance schedule for lubing an engine? The Consolidation did have a manual with the lubing points. The porter did not come with instructions.

Much Appreciated

Go over the entire loco and tighten/check ALL accessible screws, especially coupler mounts. Both of my spectrums were notoriously bad for loose screws. I still have to get a part of the front coupler assembly on the 2-truck shay from Bachmann -found part of it on the track but not the machine screw and retainer plate that holds it all together. /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/sad.gif
