Running my steam engine for the first time

So I will be running a Spectrum Consolidation & Side Tank Porter for thefirst time. Can I run the engines straight from the box or do I have to lube them before hand?
What is the usual maintance schedule for lubing an engine? The Consolidation did have a manual with the lubing points. The porter did not come with instructions.

The instructions that came with my Connie recommended lubricating it before the initial run.  So is it possible to over lubricate?
