I was reading one Disney forum and found this:
" Railroad layout in Epcot Germany leaving???
We just returned from another great vacation at WDW, but I noticed that the railroad garden display had sections of track removed. I know that the track was rebuilt last year so I asked the manager of the glass store what are they doing. She said that she heard that it was going to turn into Kim Possible's meet and greet location. Does anyone know if this is true? I'd hate to see such a beautiful display removed for another character signing autographs!"

Everytime we visit Epcot the wife & I usually spend a hour or two watching the display and pointing out different things we find to our grandkids.  It's hard to believe that Disney would remove this great display when Walt was one of the biggest railroad fans in the world.

I know that LGB donated the equipment and the Florida GRS volunteered, so maybe someone in the know will let us know what's going on.

Why Not? This is the same corporation that has systematicly dismantled or altered the park I grew up going to, Disneyland, in favor of whatever the current flaver of the month movie trend is. Alot of the park I knew is gone. I knew the end was near when they remodeled the classic Star Trek like Tommorowland for the absolutly horrible kitchy chinsey looking pile of stupid that is there now. It was really a dissappointment. I understand the need to update but somethings to me were unforgivable to me, namely like changing the design of the Monorail from that classic 50s rocketsled to the dull bland bus they resemble today. They have "updated' other classics as well, changing an all time classic's Swiss Family Robinson treehouse to Tarzans treehouse, and of course the Pirates of the Carribean, and the Submarines. I should be glad that any part of the old park remains, like the Matterhorn or the Haunted Mansion, but I'm sure they will be on the chopping block somewhere down the line.

So, in the Happiest Place on Earth, where the Happiest People are the designers knocking things down to make "new and improved" Why not remove that Garden RR? Need to sign them autograph books and pull the kiddies and their cash flushed parents into the park...

IF I could figure out how to post photos I took a bunch of what was left of the alyout. I was sadly disappointed. As to the other layout I didn't see that anywhere in Disney? Maybe it was in one of the resorts? Or maybe a building I didn't go into? Granted I missed a lot of the parks as we simply were only there for a week and had to do the "kids" stuff sometimes.

Chas

P.S. IF they are tearing down the layout could I purchase the bridges?

The Epcot layout has been torn up for a few weeks because they needed to lay cables under the layout. It will be put back into running condition when they are finished. LGB of America is sponsoring a display for the upcoming 2008 Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. It runs from March 19th through June 1st. They display will be located in the festival center (formerly the Wonders of Life building).
