I cannot seem to find the "Printer Friendly" button.

I used it  very frequently.

It looked like this in the old forum style, both at the top and the bottom of the page.

  Forum Locked
 Printer Friendly

Printer Friendly had a small printer symbol in front of Printer. An example is found here in the Porter Masterclass forum

.archive.mylargescale.com/forum/topic.asp

www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/forumid/21/postid/1449/view/topic/Default.aspx does not have the button.

I miss the button, as its' use would reduce GREATLY the amount of graphics saved when a page is saved.

I know that Stan sells decals, and I will eventually use him for them.

I know Barry sells locomotive remotoring items.

I do not need to clutter up my hard drive with their ads and all the other things Printer Friendly omitted when printing(saving) a web page.

If I have missed something, please let me know.

RE: "Printer Friendly" button missing

Don,

Shad says he is paying attention to the items posted in his 'feedback' section. (There's a link in his "Whoah.." message.) Post your thought there - and I agree it would be nice to have it back!

RE: "Printer Friendly" button missing

From my viewpoint, Shad IS paying attention to the suggestions. Whenever I posted one, I got an email reply from Shad regarding what he was doing. Several said he had to get the supplier of the software used to implement a feature and had requested that. Others, he just implemented (like the chat counts, top/bottom page, etc.) When I replied that the suggestion page was showing an error, Shad told me that the page had problems (like not showing the stats correctly at the bottom)...and THAT was also in the fix bin of the developer.

Lastly, Whooa is gone. You need to go to Services Feedback to post suggestion now.

Thanks for the replies.

I have already submitted this as a suggestion, and I just checked and it is in the queue of suggestions Shad is tracking.

Or, (at least in Firefox, my current MLS browser, select print and then click on the pdf button. (But I miss the 'printer-friendly' button too. It got rid of a lot of extraneous noise!

While the following methods are not intended to be a replacement for the Printer Friendly button that we had on the old software, maybe they'll be of help to you.
[*]For those that happen to own Adobe Acrobat (i.e. the full blown program, not just the Adobe Acrobat Reader). [*]You can take advantage of the Web Capture feature. You'll have to play around with the configuration to get it to match and work with the MLS web site design, so it will automatically work on both single and multi-page topics but it can be accomplished.
[*]For those that use the copy/paste functionality and bring the information into MS/Word. [*]For single page topics, the methods mentioned above by others works fine. [*]For multi-page topics, the closest I've found as yet that simulates the Printer Friendly functionality is the following. [*]Open the desired multi-page topic in the MLS forum software. [*]Click the Add Reply button. [*]Now, depending on your current MLS User Profile configuration (i.e. accessed via the light-grey Forums Toolbar: My Profile option). [*]If you scroll down slightly you may see the most recent reply to the topic displayed, directly following the MLS Full-text Editor area. If not, that's because you haven't configured you User Profile to have the Show Replies check box selected by default. Not to worry, just manually point to the check box with your mouse and select the feature. Then let system process your request, be patient, if there are many pages and/or many images this can take a bit of time. [*]After the browser screen refreshes, you'll now have all of the topic replies and their contents displayed. One difference here is the they will be sorted in reverse order (i.e. most recent to oldest) to what you were used to in the Printer Friendly screen of the old software. However, just like the old software all of the replies from the first to the last page of the topic will be included.
[*]The next step is to use the Select All feature of the browser, then the Copy feature. [*]Switch windows or tabs as is appropriate for your browser, so the active window is where you have the word processing program and use the Paste feature to copy all into your document.

The resulting MS/Word document won't be pretty and you'll likely have a very extensive editing session ahead, but it's better than nothing. On the other hand you could use the Select All / Copy / Paste moving from page to page too, it's your call.

Hope the above is found to be of use.

RE: "Printer Friendly" button missing

Thanks, Steve, et al.

I'll have to resort to the copy/paste if the printer friendly button does not come back.
I hope I can actually wait a while-it is already in the suggestion Q.
1) Copy/past is PITA
2) I may change my mind and do it anyway, depending upon how long the 60KB pics uploaded in a message get kept. I am sure I will want some ot those!
