old wood- tan, then a wash (1 drop paint-4 drops water) of dark brown, then a wash of grimy black

Rust - closest to old rust is burnt umber with a little black mixed in (about 6:1), for new rust, I use the paint called "rust"

Well I used Barn Wood and Burnt Sienna and Soft Black so far. ( Folk Art)

Will be using Soft Black in a wash for the wood.

It is amazing what a little paint and some imagination can do for these trains! Looks great!

Another good technique for rust is to use... rust! Soak some steel wool in white vinegar for a couple weeks, then paint the mixture onto the model where you want the rust to go.
