If you are referring to the lens jewels provided you need only rub their backs on a bit of sandpaper until you can see light through them. Sandpaper works easier for me than scraping with a model knife. Safer too for the fingers while working with such a tiny part.
Lay a piece of fairly fine sandpaper on the table and put the jewel on it, silver side down. Carefully slide it back and forth. Press too hard and it will flip over.
