Perhaps I'm dense, but I'm having an awful time figuring this sign out:

Perhaps, "don't put your ear to the rail to listen for the train?"

Quiet car--that's my guess

I LOVE the quiet car on Amtrack. You don't have to hear anyone's cell hone conversations or the buzzy sound of their ipod headphones

It is an ADA Compliant Sign for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired.

It means There are Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf (TDDs)available.

It is also used to indicate an "induction loop" for deaf people with a hearing aid (T position) or with a cocleal implant -like me!!!!

Is the sign new to the United States? It has been in use in the UK for many years now. It is usually colored red and white, not blue.
