A long story... short result, I am now a proud owner of an Aster Frank S.

It is used, came from Germany, and seems to be in good condition.

Gary already gave me a lot of good advice and pointers, but I wanted to ask the group what the experiences with this engine are.

Honestly right now my biggest concern is storage. I can't run it at this point, and I want to make sure I don't ruin it by storing it improperly. Also, I don't know when it was run the last time, so what should I do before I think about firing it back up?

Thanks,

Martin

You are gonna really like the Frank S. It was my first steamer. The way the engine was made there shud not be any special storage set up. Make sure it is oiled properly.
As fas as running is concerned it does like a warm water bath, Like jerry said there was an article done on the Frank "S". I cannot remeber where but just Google Frank "S" and any thing that pertains to the engine

will show up.
It runs great.

Oil.
Screws.
Especially the ones that hold on the tender axle cover.
I lock-tited mine to keep them from shaking out!

Mine was brand new, never run, never had the baggie taken off the nozzle.
There was no way the Johnson bar would move.
The grease in the valve body was concrete.
Cleaned it out, runs fine.
