The new Shays are coming with a new Johnson Bar that is inside admission in forward. There is no need to rotate the eccentrics 180 degrees. On the new Jbars, the valve rod is below the pivot. Couldn't figure out how to post a pic, but here's the address:
Would it be possible/worthwhile to retrofit a new Johnson bar on an old Shay and get the same results? Just curious. I have one of the first Shays off the line (serial #13) it has always run great despite the fact that I have never reversed the eccentrics. But if it could be made to run better...
I've asked for the new Johnson bar to be available seperately. I was suprized to find my updated design show in production. When and if they become available seperately, I plan to get 3. One for each of my Shays, and one for my Ruby. I never did try the prototype Jbar on a Ruby.
It's great to see that they update their products.
