So build one from scratch.
All you need is a small but precise model-making lathe, say $1200.
A whole bunch of precision tools, say another $1000.
Some raw materials - around $150-200.
Time - you figure that out.
Skills, of course....
And there ya go!
The Regner ready-to-bolt-together no-machining kit is somehow not so expensive now, eh?
BTW - the British company of Stewart-Turner makes some VERY nice kits, from the pretty small to the frankly embarassingly big.
Trouble is, THEY are dearer than Regner, whose models, on the whole, are remarkably low priced by most standards.
