Matt, you can modify one of the Regner kits. Nick Jr
Try Cole's Power Models. They handle some beauties.:D

Something like this?

Regner's 12/36,

no need in modifing, it's already a single cylinder horizontal engine.

So build one from scratch.

All you need is a small but precise model-making lathe, say $1200.

A whole bunch of precision tools, say another $1000.

Some raw materials - around $150-200.

Time - you figure that out.

Skills, of course....

And there ya go!

The Regner ready-to-bolt-together no-machining kit is somehow not so expensive now, eh?

BTW - the British company of Stewart-Turner makes some VERY nice kits, from the pretty small to the frankly embarassingly big.

Trouble is, THEY are dearer than Regner, whose models, on the whole, are remarkably low priced by most standards.

I just built a Regner Lumber Jack kit and am very happy with the results. Produced with very close tolerances and a beautiful finish. The quality of the product is well worth the price, PLUS Ken's follow up support is priceless. Nick Jr
