kit, but I did not build it. one other clue is that the hand pump works fine but when the engine is running the hand pump ram is forced out like the axle pump is back feeding. (in other words if i leave the hand pump handle in the pumped (rear) position it jumps to the intake position (handle forward)) if that makes any sense.

Bill, do you have the assembly instructions? If so look under section "D" make sure part D-7 is in the correct location. It is the only one with a slot in it. If it is in a different location it may cause the problem you are having. There were several D-8 fittings but only ONE D-7

It makes all sorts of sense, a simple problem.....you have a leaking backhead clack. The sure-fire and easy solution is to replace the s/s ball with a nitrile rubber one.

Bill - before you go and take it apart, please confirm that you primed the pump as I showed you before you ran. You have to get all the air out of the line by pumping the tender handle before you start the engine. Anytime the tender is allowed to go empty, you will have to do the same thing.

Let me know.

"Nevada" Bill, Glad you're having fun and found some like minded people around Vegas. I heard you left some of your equipment with your folks in Neptune. Hopefully when you come back east to visit you set aside a day to come run at my place. Otherwise I might have to go over and offer your parents $100 or so to get rid of the "junk" (daylight cars) cluttering their home... :D I have the same issue with my Berk. I always prime the pump but the first few times around the track the axel pump does not work and it gets low on water. After I stop it and prime it again everything works great and she runs around the track until I get tired of watching it.
