I've had one outside for a least a year now:/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/blush.gif
It's just about visible in the left of the picture (the then-new Bachmann Spectrum Mogul/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/wow.gif was the main subject). It's located between the 2 parallel tracks of a curved passing siding, so "theoretically"/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/tongue.gif can "service" either track.

In reality, it's actual function is to mark the recommended "watering spot" at the
summit of my mainline for my Accucraft live-steam Shay

, since pumping cool water into the boiler drops the steam pressure; if I add water at the "column", at that point I'm starting back
down-grade, so as soon as the boiler pressure's back up to at least 10 PSI (typically within 30 seconds of when I stop working the hand pump), I can still start a "tonnage"/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/tongue.gif train rolling while the pressure's continuing to build. It's survived well outside (although the chain has realistically rusted /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/whistling.gif somewhat), I just usually try to check it's position
before running a train past, in case a gust of wind has caused it to swing out /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/unsure.gif over either track.
