This is the second time this has happened on 2 different Engines.
I installed a Massoth emotion L decoder in a g scale bachmann side tank porter and all worked great for about 6 months then I went to run the engine and at speed step 1 the engine takes off full throttle. I tried doing a factroy reset it did change the address back to 3 but same thing speed step 1 full throttle. This same thing happened to another Massoth emotion l decoder I ended up sending it back under warranty and they sent me a new one.
Any idea on what cv I can check?
Thanks
David

I hooked up a DC power supply I have and gave it a try and the engine ran smooth in both directions slow or fast. The headlight didn't come on until about 50% throttle which is led. I then connect DCC Power to the track and the engine ran as it should. When I turned the headlight on it pulsated about every 4 feet of track the cab light comes on and stays bright.
Anyone have any input on Zen Black Buddah decoders I am thinking about giving them a try?
Thanks

I looked at the spec. for the Zen Black Buddah decoder and saw 3 amp, 5 amp peak. I dd not see a voltage rating and as I use 24 volts to my track I am very careful about insuring decoders meet this requirement for me. And my older Zimo system outputs 25 volts to the track. Yes this is track voltage, my power input to the command station is 30 volts. Note Zimo specs their decoders for 30 volts and over 35 volts peak for 20 seconds. Voltage specs are very important as several largescale manufacturers allow programmed voltage 'spikes' to make additional control of features (lenz and zimo for sure).

Thanks for the input I endup ordering a
ESU 54640. I run my trains with a esu cab control so it should work out good. Will up date when I get it and install it. It's a small 1 motor engine. A Bachmann 0 4 0 Saddle tank.

Received my ESU 54640 XL V4.0 and installed it in the engine. Was straight foward and easy to install. However nothing worked after the install no foward no reverse no headlight I checked and double checked and all wires were connected where they should be connected. So I decided to check with DC connected to the track and it ran smoothly forward and reverse. So I tried to read the cv's and could read them. I checked CV 29 and it was set to 62. I reset it to CV setting of 6 and everything worked as it should. Have played around with a few cv setting and I'm am very happy with the decoder. Think I'm going to swap out my engines with a soundtraxx tsu 4400 with a esu sound decoder even though I will have to purchase a system to write the sound files to the decoder.
