I shot a few seconds of the Lahaina, Kaanapli & Pacific steam loco "choo-choi-ing" to illustrate my point about why engines sound the way they do.

So now how do I post it so some of youse can see/hear it?

BTW, I apologize in advance for the jerkiness of the video. I was trying to walk along with the loco and hold the camera in one hand. As you can see, the train got away from me.
