Hornby made some 00 (1:76 scale) live steam locomotives in British outline , namely the A4 streamlined Pacific and the famous A3 Pacific but these are a different scale to HO (1:87 scale) models but run on the same track.

 

Here is a video of my Hornby HO scale live steam locomotives running around 10 years ago, ( hence the poor video quality)
They have not been run since i got my first live steam locomotive.

Thanks for the video Graham. Yes I remember that layout and those 00 live steam trains of yours but like a lot of us 1:32 scale live steam got in the way although I would love to see these little beauties run again if you can set up a track sometime. These very small live steamers are quite unique and rarely seen.

I find 1:50 scale but running on H0 track is intresting. Guess it's called 0n30 or 0e?

The nice thing about that size, is that it is quite reasonable and simple to cobble together some rolling stock. And obviously wheelsets are also easy and cheap to come by. Figures and cars are also abundant, as long as you are somewhat tollerant about scale.

Building a tabletop layout is very feasable in these sizes. A German man has built a very nice tabletop logging and passenger layout for his H0 steam engine. Can't seem to find the link just now.

This live-steam tabletoplayout is also really nice! And the loco also doesent go at rocket speed.

Sadly most H0 gauge live steamers seem to be pretty much one time production runs, available for a few years. Even the Hornby electric heated live steam locomotives didn't make it for many years. Very ingenious designs though. I think they even had whistles?!

I think it would be nice if someone offered kits. Or would that have an even smaller market?
