Another interesting tidbit concerning Raymond Loewy. When he designed the Studebaker automobile, his inspiration for that vehicle was the Lockheed P-38 Lightening fighter and reconnaissance aircraft.

Raymond Loewy worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. His first job was designing dynamic new trashcans for passenger stations. The prototype GG-1, Old Rivets, was designed largely by another, I forget his name. It had a riveted carbody and rather awkward gold striping. Loewy's contributions were the welded carbody and cat's whiskers striping. Then he got to streamline a K-4s and went on to various other Pennsy projects. And Fairbanks-Morse copied the T-1 front end on their sharknose diesels; whether Loewy was involved I don't know.

Loewy worked for Studebaker for a time. Toward the end he did the Avanti. And he did the interiors of AirFrance's Concordes.

Chris

Why did you reference the T1 and then post a picture of Lowey with the S1 6-4-4-6 [#6100] from the 1939 New York World's Fair?
