What a truly great day all who attended had at John's beautiful apple orchard layout today. Apart from a ten-minute donwpour - part of the carefully-arranged programme, according to John - the sun shone and the birdies tweeted and many fine engines were stome.
My thanks again go to Trevor Mainline, whose generosity in providing transport for two old f*rts was greatly appreciated. While I'm sure that there will be other posts here with pix and/or video links, let me just acquaint you all with the non-scheduled running of as fine a motley selection of live-steam locos as can be imagined -
THREE Aster Berkshires
ONE Aster Hudson
One Accucraft Cab-forward in VERY fine fettle
ONE Accucraft NG/G6 Garratt, again in very fine fettle
ONE scratch-built LBSC Pacific, renamed by me 'Princess Jubilee'
ONE very fine scratch-built inside cylinder 4-4-0, as yet unpainted, but due to be a stunner when it is
ONE Aster Pannier in GWR
ONE scratch-built 0-6-0 2F inside cylinder and another, 0-8-2 side-tank loco
An Aster Duchess arrived, but its keeper claimed it was too late to fire her up - espeically as he had spent the previous couple of hours taking pics instead of steaming.....
The day was pretty cool by UK standards, and the plumes were magnificent, especially from the Cab-forward with its splitter stack and the Garratt with its continuous outpourings....
What a great day we all had!! Enlivened by good food and good company.
What could possibly be better that that?
Best to all and thanks where due.
