I am going to do that presentation about garden trains at my work and wanted to include some good examples of model-making or kit bashing?

Can anyone point me to some good threads?

Well, there are lots. They range from:
- Machining a live steam loco from raw materials (Bill Allen)
- A bird feeder made into a building
- Converting a narrow gauge loco into a representation of a std gauge loco
- Kit bashed Piko train

And lots more.

Does building a 16mm scale narrow gauge drover's caboose out of coffee stirrers count?

Pete: the 108 is a unique loco. Didn't you bash something similar to that from Bachmann parts?
That was Bill Allen's live steam build - most impressive. I bought a 0-8-0T made from a Bachmann consoldiation that had a saddle tank, and I converted it to a 2-8-2 but most of my work was fixing it back together and making it work.

I've used coffee stirrer or ice-cream sticks as cladding or to make detail parts, to using calico as a roofing cover. You'd be surprised what people will adapt.
