Hello,

I wondered if anyone on this forum had installed radio control onto a Bowande KM1 Falk No.1? (seen here next to my RC Bachmann Mallet at the club track)

I have the engine running quite nicely but it becomes a bit of a road runner on the straights if the regulator is set to get a train around the curves at the club track - I also run on several lines that have quite steep grades that require regulator control for the engine.

Regards,

No decent video from me that I would post as I'm having to concentrate on keeping the little rocket under control (it's only had two outings at the club track so far and with LGB minimum radius curves speed is a bit of an issue).

Thank you for the images and the info (whatever your name may be... :))

I don't think I will bother with a servo for the whistle as it is, like most live steamers, a bit on the weak side (although better than some).

Couple more questions - you appear to have a riser above the boiler filler.

Was this something you turned up to enable fitting a Goodall valve equivalent? (the existing filler plug sits just above the throttle/regulator inlet and precludes screwing a Goodall as a direct replacement).

And are you running the throttle/regulator that came with the unit? Jason Kovak suggests fitting a Roundhouse unit in its place - and I'm wondering if anybody has done this to improve control?

I'm currently running 4 x removable LiIon AAA batteries in a Roundhouse Davenport which at a full 6V give plenty of running time for the Fosworks RC setup.

Regards,

David

Hi Richard,

thanks for your reply - I'll ask Jason Kovak whether he carries this extender when I look at upgrading the regulator and gas valve (I've just bought the bits to upgrade a 7/8" Decauville).

I've got an EBL M7012 charger (does both AA & AAA batteries) that plugs into a 2A USB supply - means I can charge from the car when not at home.

LiIon batteries are also quite cheap and so far, have proven reliable (I run them in my CVP throttle for my battery powered locomotives with a custom LiIon battery pack manufactured locally, an Airwire receiver and Loksound decoder).

Just be careful when ordering a charger that it is for LiIon batteries - most for sale on eBay and the like are for Ni-MH.

Bought mine via Amazon (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B088ZN6XSJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) and seperate AAA batteries also from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C9GLGQR3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)

Cheers,

David

NB; cannot find a way to contact MIdwest Rail Junction - I'm not on Facebook and their web address on their Facebook page comes up with a 404 error and the email address bounces.....
