After repeated warnings by the Weather Bureau, FEMA, Homeland Security, State, and local governments, the Marines were sent in to the HedgeApple RioGram RR towns, villages, farms and homes to evacuate the citizens, livestock, wildlife, and any other loose detail.

The situation is a projected four week torrential downfall of leaves, HedgeApples, twigs, and sticks onto the area. Leaf depth of up to 24 [scale] feet is anticipated. In past years, up to 500 HedgeApples have fallen.

A house to house, store to store search was made to ensure all citizens and living [?] creatures were safely evacuated. The Chief Operations Officer of HARGRR predicted that any that any little people remaining would face certain death and destruction when the Great Blower/Vac cleans up debris after the leaf and HedgeApple storm. In past years even vehicles and rail cars have suffered devastating damage when struck by falling HedgeApples.

This is a sad day indeed. The countryside looks soooooo empty.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the folks who must evacuate their homes and businesses.
With some luck, when they return in 4 weeks they may pick up their lives and resume some sense of normality after such a devastating season.

You really have to see the layout in person to realize what a task it is to evacuate the town. One of those hedge apples falling from a tree is equivalent to a meteor coming from space.

I am so glad I stoped to visit and got to meet all these poeples.

Be sure and apply for Federal relief. Of course the investigators are going to want to know why the residents just sat around like lil' dummies instead of evacuating.

Jim, you may need to borrow a page from the Colorado Dept of Transportation. They have constructed "avalanche shed's" over many sections of highway where regular and repeated avalanche activity occour. It seems as though the "hedgeapple avalanche season" is a regular event. The good people of the HARGRR may wish to consider these structures over critical city centers and protected shelter areas.

I'm sure federal funding is available.

Ahail storm can do as much damage also. I've got a lot of folks now that are handi capped due to decapitation and amputated arms and legs.

UPDATE NEWS:

After removing more than 16 - 80gal barrels of mulched leaves from the yard and RR, the HARGRR is once open for passenger and freight service.
