Is it normal for a Bachmann Connie to slow down a little on a 20 foot diameter curve? (ie: require more throttle to maintain speed)

My Connie slows down noticeably on 4' diameter turns(without the tender, the drawbar has issues). Is this normal?

I can confirm that it slows down with 5-6 AMS freight cars on a 4% grade on an 8' diameter turn. 20' should be fine unless there's another issue involved somehow.
