GEARS or GEAR BOX that I was told about but cannot recover from a computer rebuild. I'am tired of waiting :mad:for the gears on my Connie three months now from Bachmann. Kind of boaring just watching it sit on the shelve and collect dust. I cannot seem to find the archived forum for the Bachmann Phone Numbers for parts if any one has it or if its the one off their web site help would be appriciated. Thanks

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on a lot of help from Bachmann.  They don't seem to have many of spare parts.  Everytime I've had a Bachmann part fail, I've had to make do with some other parts.

While I don't know what is specifically wrong with your engine, it is possible that the screws holding the gear box have come loose and the motor just spins.  This is not a hard fix, if that is the case.  Have you tried TOC's recommended repairs for the Connie gear train?  I followed his directions several years ago and my engine has been running ever since.

Last winter when I was visiting Arizona, I was at a train event where Barry of Barry's Big Trains showed a conversion kit he was developing for the motor and gears in the Connie.  It was very impressive.  You might contact him to see if he is in production for these replacement units.  Everything I have heard about his replacement parts is that they are far better than the original Bachmann parts.

If you are interested I'm sure that if you ask someone on this forum they can tell you how to contact him.

I could tell you what Bachmann has or has not, who to talk to, but anymore it seems if I do I get copied with e-mails to everyone at Bachmann complaining about my comments on the forums.

And I did save them.

That said, I have been testing the BBT replacement motor/gearbox, and I will tell you this:
I like the way this beat-up old 2-8-0 runs BETTER with the BBT parts than the K-27 from the same manufacturer did out of the box.

I lost the book that came with my Bachmann Shay. Looking on-line for replacment part numbers and/or drawings turned up nothing! I called Bachmann and talked to the guy that is supposed to know it all, and after describing my problem, he wanted to sell me the "farm" ( a huge subassembly of the loco), or else have me ship my loco across 50 states to get it repaired under warranty for $50. I went to a nearby hobby shop for help, not expecting anything. They didn't have the parts in stock, but were kind enough to open up the box of a new loco to get the book out, so I could get a part number. All I need is a couple of small parts. Thank you Mizell Trains!

I have had very good luck getting parts from Bachmann, and they seem to go out of thier way to try to help as best they can. If you want drive train parts for a 10 year old loco that is a different story. If the loco is more than one year old and Large scale there is a service fee of $50 if you ship it to them for repair, but call first. This is best if you have a drive train problem as you will in most cases, get a completely new updated drive train when you get it back. If you want a number plate for the front of the boiler on your GN 4-6-0 with the original number on it it is unlikely they can help. They might be able to send you a blank one.

It is best to call their regular phone number 215-533-1600 and ask for service or parts. The 800 number is often busy and emails don't seem to work for me.

I feel Bachmann gets a bad rap on a lot of these issues. Just try getting some LGB parts, or parts especially small parts like gears or circuit boards from the other manufacturers.

The main thing with Bachmann is to call the number above, if you feel you are not being helped ask for the service manager, I have never had to call the service manager. Jason give them a call.

I have gotten good and bad from bachmann. i tried to get a new stack for my climax three times and they sent me one for an On3 climax each time. I found one through a different source. A month after that the correct stack showed up from bachmann. I have called for several annie problems as well. One time i get a guy who i believe doesn't even know what a train is, the next they are a big help.
I just figured their service dept was like their product, hit and miss. (with poor quality control to catch the miss)
