A great project well done.  Thanks for the link.

Sweet! I didn't read it complete but it really looks like he did all the homework and really put forth the effort to come as close as he could! I'm envious of all the information he has!

Scot, Chas, so what's up with the A&A's steamer? Last I read she was down for a boiler rebuild, or something. We'll be back in WNY in August and a trip behind the steam loco would be nice.
we're told it will be running "this year" for excursions....

thats what they said last year.. and the year before.. and the year before.. and.. well, you get the idea.

they did do their official steam test last fall, i think, so i guess its closer to fruition than one might think.
Honestly I've not kept track of the condition. Didn't they have two steamers at one point and one was permanently decommisioned?

Knox, Kane & Kinzua was a great trip once upon a time but with the loss of the Kinzua bridge I'm not sure they are even running excursion trains any more?

I'm not sure about the dinner trains on the NY & Lake Erie either? It's been years since I've heard of even one excursion train being run?

I can remember riding the Livonia, Avon, & Lakeville as a child too. They are long gone now.

Excursion trains, even behind diesels, that were once prolific around Western NY and Western PA are getting scarce!

Chas
I'd love to see the LA&L do some excursions, even if they are diesel powered. What about the railroad that runs out of Canandaigua? They used to do a Santa train every December.

LA&L hasnt run excursions since the 60's..
they had two steamers at one point.
bit sure why they dont anymore..they probably just dont want the hassle.

Finger Lakes Railway runs out of Canandaigua.
they run excursions quite a bit, on lots of different segments of their line.
(north, south, east and west out of Geneva)
they just aquired the former Ontario Central, and are going to start some excursions out of Victor, NY this year too.

When the "upstate steamers" were doing a steamup at Sonnenburg last year, FGLK ran a special train to Canandaigua for the train show:

Out in Medina, they have two genuine New York Central E-units! /DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/mls/emoticons/shocked.gif:D
havent been on the road yet, but should be this year.

I havent seen the E-units up close and personal yet, but I hope to soon..
