def a noob and just wanting to see some in person and see how i like it b4 i commit to buying engines and rolling stock.

Chicago area had at least 2 large Scale railroad clubs last i knew. Might check out garden railways for names & phone numbers.

soaper... Presidents weekend, Feb 11-13th, in Carlyle, IL... The gateway garden RR club will have their ""Winter Meet"".... we set up friday afternoon, and are open saturday 10-4 and Sunday 10-1... It's all G-scale... we run trains, talk trains, have some seminars on various topics.... Would be oneplace to see the trains, and see what's available from dealers... there are usually 3-6 Large scale dealers there...

Just two clubs, they dont seem very active either... bummer too! Too bad your 3 hours away from me.

before there was a "local" club one hour north of me, Carrie and I used to drive 3 hrs one way to visit and attend a club meeting . And used to drive south 3 hrs one way to spend the day. Its well worth the gas. Its just time now.
