Bachmann K27 has all metal gears, brass worm with steel gear if my memory is correct. Most of the new product since the K27s have had metal gears, even the 10 Wheeler. I have two of the Bachmann K27s, one for over 10 years and have had ZERO gear issues.
I have never heard of gear failure on the K27 since it came out.... Alan, it's the Big Hauler, the American which are the ones with common failures. The Connie (first consolidation made, not the more recently produced C19) also had issues but you can get a metal gear.
You do realize that the Bachman is a better puller than the Accucraft? Also much cheaper.
Will be listing my near mint Bachmann Connie 2-8-0 on eBay but thought I’d give guys here first chances. I bought it new. It has only been run a little on stationary rollers, never been outside. I got started doing a Phoenix sound conversion so holes are drilled for switch and programming jack...
more negatives on the Accucraft as a working loco, the stainless drivers are pretty slippery, many people burned out the Pittman motors when they tried to haul too much. Also, if you have never disassembled an Accucraft loco, you should buy WiHa stock first.
