Hi Chris,
From Wikipedia:
"Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is solid at room temperature. Unlike suet, tallow can be stored for extended periods without the need for refrigeration to prevent decomposition, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation.

Rendered fat obtained from pigs is known as lard.
Industrially, tallow is not strictly defined as beef or mutton fat. In this context, tallow is animal fat that conforms to certain technical criteria, including its melting point, which is also known as titre. It is common for commercial tallow to contain fat derived from other animals, such as pigs."

It seams that lard can be in industrial tallow. We used it on the ships and it is much like lard. Animal fat is blended to get specific properties. Traditionally tallow is beef fat, but you do not think that the guys at the slaughter house are going to let that stop them do you?

Yes and no.....

No- as we all understand algae and its relationship to sunlight

Yes- as with this development:
For the first time, scientists have introduced a fundamental metabolic change in a single-celled alga so that it no longer requires light to grow.

It would be interesting to see what this gunk looks like under a microscope. If it's plant life my guess would be you'd see cellular structures, if it's verdigris (you know . . . the green stuff that forms on brass and bronze in the presence of air and water) you would see crystalline shapes. I previously called it copper oxide, but verdifris (copper carbonate) is what I meant. Any amatuer electron microscope owners out there?

Never a dull moment steaming at my track!

My guess on what happened:

Why does this weird stuff always happen at my track???????

Steve, if I remember right you had some green stuff growing on the outside of the tank also, probably from oil residue that spilled out in the past. Was just wondering have you looked closely in your back yard? Is that stuff you squirted out onto the grass growing?

Since I had not heard from you since Tuesday I was afraid the BLOB had grown and eaten your house.

Put a smear of it on a microscope slide. Look at it under medium power. If you see cellular structure that is cells it is alge. If not it is probably chemical such as copper sulfide or such. If you don't have a scope go to the local highscool biology/chemistry lab. They may be able to do a quick test on it also.\

John, I have been scared to open my back door. Remember the seen from the original "BLOB" movie when it runs through the bowling alley attacking all? That's what could happen when I open the back door.

I have been thinking. (Now that's dangerous) Since the Berk ran so well before the clean out, we need to culture this stuff, mass produce it, and sell it as a steam oil "Additive" to make your engine even run better. It may even be better then "Lucas Mystery Oil". What do you think??
