Just looking to see if anyone on planet Earth could make an EXACT museum quality REPLICA of Pere Marquette #1225 in G scale , electric of course , With LOTS of smoke and a steaming whistle , Prototypical sounds, for a garden railway, built to be in weather.

Iv'e searched the internet for ages And no one manufactures a good berkshire , I'm 17 going to be 18 this year , hoping to get a job on the railroad , it would be nice to know about how much it would cost , and who would make them , so I can start saving money : )

There's a chinese company, Wuhu/Bowande who are capable of making such a monster. Some years ago, they produced the B&O "Yellow Belly" hudson 4-6-4.

I do not know who commissioned it, or how many they have produced since. But I haven't seen one since its debut at a big show.

I have approached them once about making a gas-electric railcar and they were very accommodating. I just didn't have the up-front cash needed to order the first prototype. I would imagine a big steam engine would cost $20,000 - $50,000 (or more) for the first prototype, and then $5,000 - $10,000 for subsequent models.

Better start saving your pennies. . .

Yes I mean 1:32 scale, but i'm looking for a certain berkshire. It's not a Nickle Plate Road berkshire i'm looking for . Im looking for a Pere Marquette Berkshire #1225

With Thanks,

Aster has made a very good replica of the NKP berkshire in 1/32 scale which is live steam meth fired and 1/32 scale the only correct scale for 45 mm gauge track. The Pere Markette and NKP berks are nearly identical, just need to redo the lettering (and perhaps a few details). In our large scales it is very difficult to get an exact replica of what you want. Although with a bit of experience and patience you can get very close. You cannot expect in large scale the kind of availability of various prototypes you get in HO scale, N scale or O scale. I have modeled in gauge one since 1976.

If the OP joins the G1MRA he will have access to a number of builders of live-steam locomotives in Gauge 1 - 1/32nd scale. If his pockets are deep enough he could even have it built to American so-called Gauge 1 - the 1/29th scale invented by Lewis Polk of Aristocraft.

However, right now, his best best lies with Accucraft UK, who actually has an Aster Nickel Plate Berkshire that he could have converted to anything he wants, without the huge expense of commissioning a custom-built model - around $10 -12K at a minimum. If he is interested, the loco is/was at Accucraft UK's Pontrilas sales centre for around $8K or so - I could be wrong though. It is, however, a live steamer - AFAIK, Aster never made an electrically driven version.

Pete, it was a flag-raising model, to see who would bite - it was in 1/29th I recall, and only one was made. A fellow Diamondhead visitor bid for it and took it home after a deafeningly silent response from the buying public, put off, no doubt, by the combination of an odd scale and lack of anything to haul behind it. It was magnificent, no doubt about it.

Why "electric of course" I've seen many people start in this hobby at your age with fixed ideas about what they find desirable in a loco - but the majority of them almost allways develop their ideas with the passage of time and the consequent gaining of experience.

However - if you really want electric - your cheapest option would be to buy an Aster live steam version for the current going price of around 4.5K dollars and convert it with a motor and a few decals. (absolute sacrilege IMHO of course)

I recently bought one at auction for ÂŁ1800 hammer price which would be perfect for you - but no - you can't have it at any price! .... :)
