Hi Guys!...1st post here...long time N scaler, but with Dad's passing, I inherited a big collection of G scale engines & rolling stock. He was only a collector (!) and didn't have anything set up & running.
I now have a few USA PA's, alot of Aristocraft U25's & FA's, and a good amount of old-school Lionel GP9's & GP20's, all new.
My question- I'd like to run multiple units with the Lionels, & I know they have 4 motors?
Could you tell me what power supply would be appropriate? Also, I see Aristo has "pulse power"...I'd like to get into G, but don't want to fry up any of these engines!
Thanks for any help you may offer from this G newbie!-Tom

Forget the warnings of pulse power, ancient history.

The Power G has had fewer failures than the USAT Trainpower 10. If you were to research the forums (a pain) you would find many more people having their Trainpowers repaired.

I will add that most of the Lionel G gauge locomotives are power hogs compared to the other brands. So don't go small when choosing power supplies. I use old AristoCraft ten-amp units with the L-Pad controllers, though better stuff has been made since.

I did a comparison between the MRC Power G and our (Bridgewerks) Magnum 5 SR. The power G is rated at 10A, and the Bridgewerks unit is rated at 5A, but the Bridgewerks will put out more power (current) for any voltage level that is set for the controller. If anybody wants a copy of this report - ask me (mark@bridgewerks.com) - I'm not sure about the policy on attaching something like that to a post.
