I just received Cricket #12 from Westminister Locomotive Works (WLW) and boy!! am I glad I ordered a red one .
The packaging was 1st class with the "Sealed Air Corps" form-fitting packaging. Really secure.

The documentation is very good with a lot of tips.
It comes with an accessory/goody package...all one needs to get started is distilled water and butane. I can't wait to get it steamed-up over this weekend.

Congratulations Mike Krionderis....a first class piece of workmanship.

I recieved my #8 Cricket Oct 6th, Red too. It's a good thing my wife was out of the country that week.
I hear there's a regular Cricket Steam-up at DH, so I guess #8 will have go to meet all its relatives. |

007 (Green) wowed 'em at Syracuse last weekend. I wasn't planning on taking it to DH but if something is being organized...... Along with the Shay-up and last year's Willi erection will there be a Cricket chirp? Have fun, Tom |

They are a sturdy, well made looking little Loco. I hear that they pull well too. |

Jason, It's early in the morning, I haven't had coffee, and some will tell you I'm just dense, but I don't think I get it, why GG --- OH !? Is that it? GG as in GGB?
Maybe I'll have to repaint my Cricket International Orange like the Golden Gate Bridge. |

I ran the Cricket on the rollers tonight and it fired right up, made a full head of steam rather quickly, and ran right at 20 minutes (under no load) and at the lowest throttle setting I could manage without a flameout. The steam was very dry right from the start and I got little water weeping from the cylinder. I got no water or oil expelled from the bottom of the smokebox as the documetation suggested.
I am very happy with its first test. Tomorrow I'll see how many of my 8 work train cars it'll pull...that'll be the proof of the pudding.

| Bob is lowballing. You can pull all eight loaded with rocks and lead slugs. Up a 15% grade. On wet track. |

Bob, are you sure of that? Mike Simpson says it can't be done. Bill |

Yep Bob, 8 it is The Criket labored a bit at first with a short section of track that's 2%, even with an opened up throttle. After awhile it even took that pretty well. With the increased throttle, the run times came back down to about 15 minutes.
And I got a nice plume, to boot Of course the temp was 52 degrees...that always helps.
My work train cars are all heavy-weights. I've been told that I over did the birdshot...2 of them weigh 2+ lbs., 4 weigh 1 3/4 lbs. and 2 weigh in at 1 1/4 lbs.
Again, I'm very pleased.

Here is my Cricket getting a workout on the Lake Hall & Highgrove railroad in Tallahassee - this is up a slight grade.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f14wpRd-7xY
It never stalled and ran for 16 minutes. I added two more cars and that finally overcame the limits of adhesion, but the Cricket kept spinning it's wheels. That little engine has some grunt!

Bill, please. I say and do enough stupid things all by myself. No need to add to the legend, just give me a few minutes and I'll do it myself.
But ain't all those new (and old)Crickets purty? I liked mine so well I had to order a second one. (Just for the grandson, of course.)
Regards, Mike |
