Usually I would be getting packed and ready for my annual trip to Diamondhead, MS. Since there isn’t going to be a steamup there this year, what are you going to do to fill the void? We here in the northern states have this thing called cold weather. Not much fun running in 25 – 30 deg weather in the snow. You guys going to York for Cabin Fever sure are lucky.

Jeff, A long trip for a few short days of running. I just can justify making the trip. Now if it was in warm weather, I would just stay longer and make it worth the expense! |

Chooch, We here in Western Washington are having a steamup on January 14 in place of Diamondhead. It was abnout 40 degrees for our boxing day steamup last week and the plumes are fantastic. I have never had the chance to go to Diamondhead because of school, but I hope to attend a 'quasi-Diamondhead at least. Best of luck in the new year to all live steamers.

Fred, I'm counting on it being warmer in York than Rottenchester. Except for Jackie O's or the DQ you guys never go outside anyway so what's the difference? Along with Jeff's equation of steam=warm I'll add the warmth of the cammeraderie and the burnt fingers. There is forecast to be four tracks, Mike Moore's, Charles Bednarik's (both large) and my two small portables, the first now in the possession of Jeff Young. Coal is even being allowed so you could bring your Ruby. We're steaming Thursday thru Sunday! Splurge! grab your MI buddies for a road trip. It's going to be great! Have fun, Tom SA #46 |

Well, I'm still getting the experience of being up 24 hours a day.
Too bad it doesn't involve live steam, though I am contemplating a burner design using dirty diapers. (Hey, it can't be any worse than alcohol fumes!)
With the little one, I wasn't going to be able to make it down this year anyway, but it's going to be close to 60° today, so perhaps I can find time to boil some water.
Later,

The in past three years we have been setting up at Cabin Fever there has been some wintery weather but nothing to prevent us for enjoying the warm and cozy format with so much to offer:
http://www.cabinfeverexpo.com/Photos/2004/CFE_01.htm Yes there is a little less as to running time (no 24/7) but it has become a viable alternative to NO DH 06. As far as meets go it's relatively inexpensive then add to your experience of the historical offerings: RR museum of PA, Strasburg RR, and tours areas of Lancaster (even lots of Factory outlets for next Xmas shopping). If you are really adventurous you could head down the highway about 1.5 hours away to Baltimore to the B & O museum.
For those interested here is the tentative layout plan (except we will have a turntable on Bednarik's layout also):

I'm definitely looking forward to this show.....can't wait to get something of a 'hands-on' view.
What's the minimum radius of Mike Moore's track?

Charles,
Is this going to have a 'sign up to run' for each track? 1/2 hour each sign up like at Dr. Rivets?

Dave We plan to have a signup board. Along with that board there will be a RC board to obtain frequency clip for running if one is operating RC to prevent conflict with the steam boats. |

Got an e-mail from Jerry R. today and wanted to share the pictures with all you who would be at the Ramada this week.
I guess we wouldn't be able to stay there now.

This is hard to tell from this picture, but this is the gas station on the highway.... as it stands (?)today.

It's hard to believe that after four months there are still sights like this. Thanks for sharing Jerry, and hope things get more back to normal soon for all of you down there.
