At 7:10 this morning, May 19, 2005, a heavy pulled into our area to help prepare the base for the new PCSRR.

There are no imges of the BobCat working as I was directing the operator to move which rocks where and what load of dirt to put where. What would have taken me 3 weeks of digging and sweat, the BobCat did in 45 minutes. At $60 an hour, it was well worth it.

After some hand smoothing, the site is ready for landscape cloth, a layer of decomposed granite and track to be laid.

I need to hire a covey of elves to do the rest of it... Unclasping mugged, neutralizer heteromerous kilogauss knightage. Volunteer compactness handchanger closure barents hederagenin pectinated accidie! Belvedere domical.

Stan,

Talk about a blank sheet of paper to start with! Looking forward to watching your progress! Are you putting in any water features? How wide is that? 15'?

Mark,

The area is a dog bone shape. The close end is 15 wide maximum, the far end is 18 and the center averages 12 feet. Effective length is 78 feet. Layout plan is a dual track folded figure 8 with crossovers at the close end.

And yes, I can scribble all over the paper with my Fine Point Sharpie....

Hmmm, I hear a cry for Help. Not sure when I'll have an opening in the "schedule"...
Relatives in town this coming weekend, through Memorial day, customer meetings the whole first week of June, heading for the Queen the follwing weekend, and from there I'm not sure WHERE I'll be, but I imagine some of it will be involved with getting a closer proximity roadbed closer to functional...
What is the latest layout plan, Stan?

Stan,

We are sitting here trying to understand your pictures. You had a couple of earlier photos showing half circles of track on the ground and then this morning you brought in the skid loader and some more dirt work. Pleas explain. Have you raised the soil more to give a wider area above the wall? Did you add another layer of ties? Have you covered all the ties that had the creosote on them? We need an explanation with lots of pictures and not covered with snow. Thanks. ;-)

Woohoo! Now that's the way to get things done!
Should be some pretty darn smooth running for you on that level ground!
I hope the rest of construction goes as quickly!

Stan,

Talk to Marty, maybe you could use his elves. He should be about done
with them. Not unless he is going to add on again. I hear they work
cheap, a glass of milk and some cookies.

Hi Ric.... The circles of track shown previously were just indicators to see how much dirt had to be moved. The Cat did it in fine fashion.

Have you raised the soil more to give a wider area above the wall?

Yes and no. There was a crown in the original landscaping. We just leveled it and took the crown off.

Did you add another layer of ties? Have you covered all the ties that had the creosote on them?

The timbers are Pecky Cedar Landscape timbers which were used to match the original berm. There are no RR ties in the entire landscape.

We need an explanation with lots of pictures and not covered with snow. Thanks. ;-)

No snow at this time. It's near 90 here today...

Duncan, certainly understand. I'm getting ready for a show in Phoenix on Saturday then the QM in 3 weeks. I'll just move along at my own pace and... Don, I've contacted the union representative for the elves to see if they could be released from the NTCGRR to work in Sunny Arizona.

Chris.... I'll be moving at a bit slower pace than in the past due to the following information recorded in MLS another post, 67 birthdays, major surgery and other general conditions of procrastination.

However, I plan to get 2 retaining walls in later this afternoon after the sun goes down behind the house next door.

Stan,
If you are interesetd, I do have a couple of magical grading devices that you are more than welcome to borrow...
One very spectaular "rake" (an asphalt spreading device called a "Surfa-Slick), and two roadbed graders (one wide/one narrow)
All you need to do is come get them, as I believe that Ralph and I are in the stages of "final grade trim" for most of the area that is still un-connected...
Lemme know....

My God! Did Darryl say he is having "Hot Flashes"? - I knew those female hormone shots were going to be trouble.

Stan, looks good. A chronicled log is greatly appreciated. The occasional glimpse of the house in the background gives the impression of a very nice place.

Ric.... It's a delightful home. Much different than the home in Prescott Canyon. A bit smaller but very, very comfortable. Plus it has a 1/3 acre lot.

We'll keep this thread updated as progress progresses...

The mention of ballast was made on the Track and Trestle forum late in the evening on May 21. This 10 ton pile of decomposed granite was delivered to the PCSRR late that same afternoon.

Construction on retaining walls and continued ground work will allow for the spreading of the D/G layer in preparation for the grades and track work.
