RE: What did you build your "Roads" out of?
Posted By paintjockey on 22 May 2012 09:20 AM Matt, I hate you and your great looking layout..... Thanks. I hope to get a lot of new layout photos this summer. More for you to hate...

RE: What did you build your "Roads" out of?
Dirt. Link to larger image I haven't found anything that looks as good as the real ground for dirt roads. Although I wasn't looking for material to simulate paved roads. I'm not sure paved roads would look right for our late 1940s - early 1950s Southwest Colorado layout......

RE: Transition from 0% to 3% grade
If the transition is small, the front of a loco might bottom out and hit the rail. Meaning the bottom of the pilot will hit the rail. This is magnified if the loco has a pilot plow. But I'm thinking 5 feet should be enough. Although I've never gone to the extreme of 0% to 3% i......

RE: SP; Krauss-Maffei ML4000
Very cool. Not sure what the kits were priced at originally, but they are hard to get now being sold out. I don't think anyone has posted pictures of a painted and finished model yet. I'll have to do a Google images search to see. I like the dynamometer car behind the loc......

RE: Precision Scale Tank car (1/2 scale)?
Useful info all, thanks. Didn't know the Precision tanks went back to the mid 1980s. That's around the time I got started in G scale. Our current freight roster consists of USA, LGB, Hartland, Bachmann, and MDC. All work very well together. The MDC short caboose......

Precision Scale Tank car (1/2 scale)?
I'm wondering if anyone here has one or has ever seen a Precision Scale G scale tank car. They are supposedly 1:24 (1/2 scale) Does anyone have dimensions on these cars? For our 1:22.5 scale layout, I'm currently using the Bachmann Big Haulers tank cars. Nice, but not exactly pr......

Got the truss rods off. Looks completely different now. Should stand out nicely from the rest of my USA trains rolling stock. ...

RE: Rio Grande Southern Reefer
I thought about removing the truss rods. But they are built into the bottom part...which includes the truck bolsters. Well, at least I think they are. There was some reason why I couldn't remove the rods easily last time I checked. I'll look again though and see w......

Rio Grande Southern Reefer
I wanted a Rio Grande Southern (RGS) reefer for our 1:22.5 scale layout. The few prototype cars were originally C&S reefers. One RGS reefer, #2101, is still around at the Colorado state railroad museum. Although I believe it is currently lettered for C&S. I figure......
