About Me
I am Paul Deis. Like many others my first exposure to trains was my fathers Lionel. It was set up in the bedroom I shared with my brothers.
When I was 16 I bought an “N” Scale train set for my nephew for Christmas. I set it up on the dining room table to make sure it worked. He never got that train set but I was hooked. I joined the New York Society of Model Engineers for a short time. I then joined the service and built a few “N” scale layouts as I moved around the country.
After the service I settled in California and joined an “HO” modular group, the San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Club since renamed the San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association. Since the club was HO and I had N, I sold my N and changed to HO.
I now belong to a loose knit group called the Thursday Night Boomers. As the name implies we spend our Thursday nights working on each others railroads.
I have since built a large HO layout the The Los Osos Valley Railroad (LOVRR), depicting the SP Coast Line from San Luis Obispo to King City, CA as it was in 1949. That layout was torn out for a move. It will be rise from the trash pile once again in my new home. See our HO Railroad Pages
While I was building the LOVRR I bought my youngest daughter a G scale Thomas The Tank Engine Set. It worked. She was hooked on trains and built up her G Scale collection over the years. She has since moved onto other interests and I am the proud owner of some of her former equipment. It is the base from which the new Garden Railroad was born. We have finished the first phase of track building and have started on the second phase.

Ditto what many others have said. I am building kits I have picked up over the last few years. I need a lot more track for the next phase of the railroad but that may take a while to procure as I wait for sales and used track to become available.

I am getting ready to build the Harford D&RGW 17 foot caboose. The kit recommends using Jig J-24 to assist in alignment of the frame parts. I have built some other hartford kits and the Jigs are a big help. Do you have the jig that I could borrow or buy from you. It is no longer available from H......

I have a lot of each. I change all of them to Kadee couplers and run them. With the Bachmann they have the journal covers that lift up and give easy access to add a door of oil for lubrication, but the covers pop off easily. Installing kadee couplers is a drop in on the Bachmann. On the Accucraft yo......
