About Me
Retired after 38 years in the forging industry making forging dies. The last 13 years of my career, I was using MasterCam and building dies using Numerical Control milling machines.
I am a 100% disabled combat veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the Moblie Riverine Force, 9th INF DIV in the Mekong Delta 1966-67. Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
I've been involved with trains for as long as I can remember with Lionel trains (I still have them!), HO and then the BIG stuff. 1/8th scale live steam locomotives (I built and own a Gene Allen 4-6-0) and a 1/8th scale Pacific Electric freight motor and rolling stock. Member of Los Angeles Live Steamers for over thirty years.
Been doing garden railroading since 1986, when I received my first LGB Mogul. Within the last three years my emphasis has been on 1/20.3 finescale Colorado narrow gauge.

Eric,
Very nice tug! I've always wanted to build a steam-powered tug. One year at Los Angeles Live Steamers, we had a very large pond constructed for steamboats and we had a great turnout of beautiful models. Your tug would have been at the top for sure! Thanks for posting....

Posted By Greg Elmassian on 20 May 2012 01:22 PM Did not say it was a complex problem. Understanding all the bits of the tolerances used and how to make your switches work, and what to do when you have thick flanges on wheels so that you cannot meet specifications IS a complex subject. Gary, not eve......

I really have a chuckle reading this thread. Measuring a set of wheels for proper back-to-back or back-to-back plus the flange thickness is NOT a complex problem. Nor is it impossible to do. Just look at a section of a wheel, note the location of the tire taper, the fillet between the flange and tir......

I have a hard time justifying spending great amounts of time to just build something to watch run in circles. I would like to actually make a model railroad that has a purpose. With F-Scale you can actually haul a fair amoun......

Posted By avlisk on 15 May 2012 02:15 PM It's the 45mm long spacer pieces between the 6' long slats. The "rungs of the ladder" if you will. I haven't gotten to attaching to the vertical supports yet. Ken S.
Ken,
Make sure you sand the butt ends against a disk. Nice and flat ......

Are you using the PVC pipe as your spacers? OR are you trying to glue the lattice boards to your VERTICAL PVC pipe? I just glued the spacers, but used a screw to fasten the lattice to the verticals....

Posted By avlisk on 15 May 2012 01:24 PM I am trying to do the PVC pipe and Rot Free lathe for a ladder, but the PVC cement I'm using isn't holding the pipe to the lathe. I'm using the blue pvc pipe cement. Is this the wrong cement, and can anyone who has done this method make a recommendation for p......
