Is there a G scale club or even people with a G scale layout in Nova Scotia?

I live in Sackville NS and looking for other G scalers.

Alex Walker lives in Sydney. I do not know if he is a member here, but he is on the Aristo-Craft forum.

I am in Moncton, NB. I can't say that I am into large scale yet though. I do plan on buying some stuff when finances allow. Right now I have a bunch of On30 stuff waiting on a layout :)

I just moved here from Naples, Florida last October (long story met a lady fell in love got married etc).

I have to admit I was pretty disappointed in the lack of hobby shops in the area. In Moncton, as far as I can tell, there is only ONE hobby shop that carries model railroad stuff, HO and N, and it is run out of someone's garage and only open on Wed nights for part of the year and Wed nights and Saturdays the rest of the year. While this hobby shop does take orders and prices things reasonably, it sure would be nice to have a full time hobby shop in town. Hmmm...possible business opportunity...

I havent yet tried to order stuff from the states and have it shipped here...I imagine the duty would make it pretty darn expensive.

Mike

There is no duty on importations of model railroad gear from the USA into Canada. You will pay the sales tax though as a protection to any local merchants. Watch out for shipping - Americans love their courrieur services like UPS and Fedex while Canadians like most other countries prefer the usage of the postal system. The courrieurs will zing you an extra $50-75 per order for custome brokerage, something not apparent to the shipper.

The mail order discount pricing for large scale stuff from the USA is a big incentive to order by mail ... the shipping is not so bad if you find a dealer who will use the Post Office. If you are looking for stuff in Canada priced reasonably I can recommend Art Knapp in Vancouver - and ordering from them will mean you will pay only GST.

Regards ... Doug

On another site there are a few people from Canada that would come on for chat night. Not sure what province but they were definitely from Eastern Canada.

If I had the financial backing and knew more about the products I would start a business out here. Right now I am gathering enough track and rolling stock to get my layout on the ground for next summer.

From the movie phrase, "Build it and they will come". Has anyone seen this happen,  wherre a G scale shop opens where there are no G scaleres and the hobby secures a foothold.  Any input would be appreciated. Regards. Dennis.

Well maybe if I save up about $30,000 before I retire next year I can start a small train shop out here Dad. What do you think. Maybe you and Mom can move out here and help me run it...LOL

We can call it the "Brown's Train Depot"

Summers are too short. Would have to put it in a greenhouse. Wouldn't cost much, we could take it out of petty cash. LOL
