Absolutely amazing! Beautiful work!

How did you make the oil drums?

Is the surveyor's scope a commercial part, or did you have to scratchbuild it?

Ray,
We machined a solid aluminum drum to use as a master for making drums. We wrap the master with thin aluminum metal cut to height of drum. We then burnish the metal against the master to pick-up all the bands in the drum. We then remove the thin metal from the master and glue the ends together. Lastly we make a top or bottom for the drum out of the thin metal by using the master again. It is then glue at the end of the drum.
The surveyor's scope and rod (with elevation numbers) are scratch built.

Sigh. Guess I better take up another, less artistically demanding hobby, since I done run outta talent. Truly museum quality work, Dave.
