| On January 1st, we launched the new and improved myLargescale.com.. The Bionic MLS as I called it. We had a few bumps along the way, but all in all, the conversion went smoothly. Things were humming right along, then disaster struck.. On January 29th, the server that the new site was running on had a major hardware failure. I drove into town in the middle of a major snow storm to find that the server was not going to be easy to recover. I made the decision to put up a maintenance page for a day so I could fully evaluate the server. After a day spent looking at the server, I determined that it was going to take a lot longer to fix and I turned the old forums back on. Over the next week, I spent a considerable amount of time with some data recovery software retreiving the files and database from the failed hard drive. I was able to get the new site back online on February 6th on a different server.
Many of you asked how you can help over the course of the outage. I appreciate all the offers. Many people had great ideas, and all the support really helped me get through a really tough week. Well, here's your chance to help even more. In order to raise the funds needed for a new more powerful server, I've posted the Leap Year Subscription Sale. I've been so busy getting the new site up and running that I didn't realize it was a leap year! Oh yeah.. Reason to celebrate! (I guess) To celebrate the extra day in the month of February, we’re having a promotion big enough that it can only happen once every 4 years!! Upgrade your account to 1st class for less this month only! The more years you subscribe, the lower the price! You can subscribe for one, two, or four years, or even purchase a lifetime membership! There are only a small amount of lifetime memberships available.
In addition, if you upgrade this month, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $200 gift certificate to a large scale train shop. For each year you join or renew, you will receive 1 entry into the drawing. Lifetime memberships receive 10 entries.
The funds raised from the sale will purchase a new server that one of our gracious members has offered to help me purchase at his cost. The new hardware will be faster and more reliable. In addition, fully covered under a warranty, so if a hardware failure ever occurs again, we can recover quicker.

This update marks the return of the Monthly Photo Contest. It's back and better than ever. All registered members can enter the contest and all registered members can vote for the winner. The new contest has a few new features and rules. First of all, you can submit a description of your photo. Explain your scene, tell us what kind of camera you used, who's layout it was on, etc. This is your place to tell us all about the photo. On the rules side, we're not disqualifying anyone who has won in the past, you can enter every month even if you've won in the last couple months or never won. Another change, you can now vote for more than one photo. If you can't decide between two photos which is your favorite, vote for them both. At the end of voting, as before, the photo with the most votes wins. The web master's vote is the tie-breaker in the event of a tie. Enter the new contest now!
And now, a little fun. Can you guess where Emmet, our traveling railroad tourist is this month? This should be an easy one. Guess in the forum.
Finally, I'd like to apologize for an email that was erroneously sent out earlier today to all users. In the process of setting up the photo contest, a test email was sent out to the general mailing list. Please disregard that email. You can delete it. No action is required by you.
Thanks for all your support during this transition to the new site, and over the past 7 and a half years!
