McNickels Cement Company It was early 1951; the country’s economy is enjoying the post war boom. But none of that mattered to you as you strolled pass McNickels Cement Company, which stood prominently at the edge of Lexington Avenue, three blocks from Main. Nope, not a care in the world cross your mind seeing the impressive cement silos always caused a chuckle. Tim Johnson once bragged that he could throw a rock on to the top of one of those towering silos. No way, you thought … too tall. But you never said anything; Tim was your best buddy a dreamer and a story teller I suppose that’s what you liked about him. Many a summer day you and he would watch as the trains would unload their cargo ready to be hauled off to neighboring towns. Trucks would pull out loaded almost everyday except Sundays; old man McNickels would never have anyone work on Sundays. When you’re ready to bring McNickels Cement Company to be a prominent industry on your layout, call Dan Hoag at Eaglewings Iron Craft except on Sundays… I guess some things never change.
