Yes, and the data I have is from field work on insturmentation of about that many years, glad to see the agreement between the two.

I like your "zap" idea, I "ass-ume" that you are hooking positive to positive, neg to neg, and you are hitting the packs with 18VDC, but what is the voltage of your pack, in the 14VDC range?

You need to hit the memory affected batteries with a pretty high voltage to make the "zap" technique work.

Fully wound up the LGB starter set controller gives out around 27 volts under no load. That is ideal and is quite safe to do as the transformer is overload protected. I usually leave the leads on + to + etc until the overload trips after a minute or so.

Craig, Thanks for the info and pictures. I haven't gotten around to wotking with the Ryobi batteries yet. i was wondering what they were like inside. Was wondering how to make the charger work after I tore the battery packs apart. Your idea is so simple. How do you secure the batteries and what kind of car do you put them in?

As far as securing the batteries, I assume you mean in the trail car? I don't. Their own weight holds them down pretty good. I would think maybe a couple of pieces of foam, one on each side would be best though, just to make it easy to pull them out & swap out a new pack. I use a box car & a stock car for my battery trail cars, one is has a receiver in it the other is just a battery car. In either case I plug the computer power connector into the car, then have a smaller less obtrusive plug for the car to the loco connection.

Well, I think you should have started a new thread for this question, but what are you going to use it for? That sounds like a lot of volts and not much run time to me.

Why 21.3 volts? You either need to make the pack with NiCad, NiMH or Li-ion cells. With NiCad or NiMH cells, you need either 17 or 18 cells to get approximately that voltage. You can use the Aristo-Craft Li-ion battery. It is 21.5 volts at 2 AH.

To the original question:

Yes the QSI will handle 35 volts just fine.

You might have to charge your battery packs separately.

Setting the CV for max volts is really not what it does, you would be setting the PWM output to the motor to an equivalent of 24 volts, but it would be 28 volts pulsed... this is important to remember, the voltage is not changed, only the pulse duration.
