| Chaps, As the finished Mason Bogie models start to roll out in 2006, I thought we should do an up-date page of the models done to date. If you have a Mason underway that's not shown here, or have more up-to-date pictures, please post below, and I'll use that URL to include it in this set up front. I'm amazed at the quality of the work done, and it will be a great relief to see these models come to completion soon...OK so here goes: The Prototype Model by David Fletcher: Rich Schiffman - Texas. Rich has been a huge support, and also was instrumental in getting the Mason Bogie prototype wheels cast for us, and aided Jim Barron in the castings for the bell rig details. Jim Barron - US (Texas) Its darn hard to see which model stands out as being about the best, everyone has done great, but Jim's is way out there...I've not seen such Perfection in the entire model as this one! Jim also was kind enough to use his star stanchions and bell rig as masters for some fabulous brass castings we were all able to benefit from. Jim also hand made the masters for the new prototype Mason Bogie drive wheel casting. Jim's model is scratch built and beyond to include the making of Masters for all of us to use. Jim Barron - 1st place, (Rod Locomotives) at the 2007 Narrow Gauge Convention, Portland Maine. Finally - 10meg movie file. This is really neat and worth the download. Two Bogies rolling over the Trestle at Rich's place - the first Bogie is Rich's loco followed by Jim's! http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/DavidFletcher/Bogies.mov Peter Bunce - UK - First to complete the Mason with full decoration - Eastlake design. Decals available from Stan Cedarleaf. Andy Bernat - UK (Washington DC) First to use the laser cut chassis, and fancy decal work based on 'Breckenridge'. This is just pure style! And my favorite Andy has posted a 14.7MB movie of her hauling his train (Hartford cars) at: http://www.bernat.net/~andy/files/running.mov A perfect consist for this loco. Winn Erdman has been building a Live steam 2-6-6T using the laser cut stainless steel chassis, prototypical cast wheels, and Roundhouse boiler, laser cut cab and pilot, with the rest scratch built in brass, including the pivoting steam pipes, cylinders, valve sets and so on. Even the backhead is highly detailed, despite being a live steamer! Still in progress: More building info here: http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/forumid/21/postid/609/view/topic/Default.aspx Allan Cash - UK Allan has completed his Mason. 21-09-06. Allan Cash has also now built a live Steam 2-4-6T Mason, based on the Mason type of this class, but using an Accucraft Ruby boiler and chassis as a basis for the steam aspects. This is one outstanding Ruby bash! His Full Building Log can be found here: http://www.mylargescale.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31955&whichpage=1 Crossing between Steam Class and Masterclass! Martin Rindlesbacher - Switzerland Building in wood at a scale of 1:11.25, 80mm gauge. Bill Burtwell - Calgary Canada. Mason #42 from 1885. Bill scratch built the chassis frame in styrene using the Ch6 PDF DIY frame set and Hartland parts. Tim Dannels - Colorado. This is a model of DSP&P #5, after rebuilding from the KCRR's 'L.T. Smith', an identical Mason to 'Bully Boy' of 1877. Hans Jurgen of Germany: Here is Hans' finished Mason Bogie 'Oro City' - The first of the DSP&P Masons. The chassis is built using the laser cut stainless steel chassis cut by Harald Brosch in Germany for MLS, with the prototypical wheels fitted to Hartland axles. Wheels by Jim Barron, put into production by Rich Schiffman and Alan. Hans was with us from the very beginning. Hayes Hendricks - Arkansas. Michael Hilliar - New Zealand. Wayne Spence - Australia Steve C - US. (Florida) Steve's Bell rig is simply a work of art, go check his building log sometime! Rob Curry - US. (Washington State) Scot Lawrence - US (NY) John Lilly - US (Washington State) John's has a special place in my heart..a great prototype (AA Denny 0-6-4T), and John's own accomplishment in doing it. Its also the only Mason from the class I've actually got to see with my own eyes...the real model is far better than the photos show. Malte (Slatibartfast) - German in NY! Chaps, there is a 28 page building log done by Malte on the construction of his bogie which goes way past this level shown in the photo, it's worth reading his log, because you'll probably learn more from his log than my class! Jens Lasch - Germany Peter Smith - UK Peter was inspired to build his 1:20.3 Mason after seeing the class, however I think its fairer to say he pretty much was able to build his Mason indapendent of the class and did a neat job of it. coming in from the rear and doing an absoloutely stunning piece of work, Jason Kovac from NJ: Tim Lee - South Australia tender sides and scratch built tender truck (great job on that truck Tim!) view of side of fire box. scratch made bell rig and domes. .....and Chris Walas..my hero and reason we're all doing this! Chris will be building a serious model too, but this one is just too cool..and besides his bell rig is better than mine..I wonder..cast a sculpy bell rig? Maybe! Enjoy and keep adding those pics!
David Fletcher at it again - Using left over parts from the Mason Project, and a spare Aristo 0-4-0 slope back tender 4 wheel drive block, here is the Centennial Mason Bogie of 1876. Built for the Centennial Exhibition of science and technology, this engine represented Mason's latest thinking in 1876 including his use of Eastlake decoration on dark green paint finish.
