Over on the Aristo forums, R.J DeBerg posted a thread sharing that he had installed directional ditch lights in his GP40. Since I've been having a ball with mine, I took some time this morning to do the same..... I used 3mm white LED's and wired them directly into the motor circuit on the underside of the motor PCB. That way I had a very easy way to find the leads for reversing polarity and didn't have to cut or splice any OEM wires.

From the angle of the camera, it looks like there is a solder crossover but, nope, all is isolated.

Wired the resistors that came with the LED's in line. Put a 4001 diode in line so when the locomotive reversed in direction, the ditch lights would be directional and LED's wouldn't go PHFFFFFFFFFFTTTTT.

Using my trusty Dremel with an 1/8 inch tool, I cut the holes in the front of the locomotive for the LED's,

Super Glued them in, tidied up the wiring, put the motor PCB back where it belonged,

put the shell on and brought it into the train shed for a test..... They worked...:D

Ditch lights off..........

Ditch lights on... (Yes, the train is running forward) :D

RJ, thanks so much for the idea and for the input on the RAM kit. I had all the stuff in my electrical junk box to do the job.... :) 'scuse me.... Electrical junque box.
